Project Description
In the historic heart of Paris, on the Ile Saint-Louis, a former maid’s room has been transformed into a refined pied-à-terre, offering modern comforts while respecting the soul of the place.
The renovation project combined practicality and aesthetics, maximising the space in this cocoon nestling under the roofs of the capital.
From the moment you enter, the charm is in the red terracotta floor tiles, a vestige of the past, which we have been careful to preserve. Their natural patina tells the story of the place and adds an authentic warmth that contrasts harmoniously with the contemporary features integrated into the layout.
The main room is designed around two cleverly arranged technical walls. The first houses the wet rooms, such as the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom, small but functional, has a surprisingly 60s patterned floor, a playful nod to retro design. The kitchen, meanwhile, combines the elegance of pink marble with the nobility of oak. This subtle combination creates a space that is both practical and elegant, where every detail has been meticulously chosen to offer both comfort and aesthetic appeal.
Opposite, the second technical wall incorporates a clever storage system, as well as a sleeping area concealing a fold-down bed. This feature transforms the daytime space into a veritable haven of rest at night, while freeing up space during the day. Once folded away, the bed disappears behind the wooden doors, leaving the room free-flowing and uncluttered.
Under the window, a wooden bench offers a breathtaking view of the picturesque rooftops of Paris, creating a space for contemplation and serenity. This restful spot is ideal for soaking up the unique atmosphere of the Île Saint-Louis. Adjacent to the entrance, a fold-down desk has been designed to maximise the use of space without compromising comfort or elegance.
Every inch of this small space has been optimised to offer maximum comfort, while preserving the historic character of the place.
