The Morion bookcase is an artistic and functional piece, inspired by the enigmatic allure of black quartz, particularly the smoky, dark-hued Morion variety. This natural crystal’s angular, raw form serves as the blueprint for the bookcase’s design, creating a unique shelving system where every angle reveals a different perspective, much like the facets of a quartz stone catching light from various directions.
The structure of Morion is intentionally irregular, with shelves of varying heights and widths to accommodate books of all sizes, from slender paperbacks to oversized volumes. The form invites dynamic arrangements, allowing your books and decorative pieces to be displayed in ways that feel both organic and sculptural. Just as Morion quartz forms in nature without rigid symmetry, the bookcase avoids uniformity, offering an evolving visual experience.
At the base of the bookcase, a solid concrete foundation contrasts with the angular, crystalline upper structure. This concrete base adds a sense of weight and stability, grounding the lightness and irregularity of the shelving. The contrast between the raw, industrial feel of concrete and the sleek, polished finish of the shelving creates a visually striking harmony, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the piece.
Beyond its practicality, Morion plays with the ideas of visibility and concealment. The asymmetrical placement of the shelves creates a dynamic “see and unseen” effect, where some books or objects are partially hidden, while others are fully on display. This interplay evokes a sense of discovery, where every glance at the bookcase reveals something new, much like the subtle beauty of the natural quartz that inspired it.
